Grants

The DCCF actively makes grants to help meet community needs. The Board of Directors annually establishes the distribution available and the priorities for giving.

We received a grant from the DCCF in 2006 to help purchase signage to advertise Decatur County's first organized Farmers' Market. The locally made pieces have proved to be a great contributor to the market's success-- we have had over ninety different vendors sell at our market and regularly see crowds of around 400 or more. The market continues to grow each year and serve as both an economic and social boost to our downtown district, and we appreciate the DCCF's support in helping to make this happen.

Bryan Robbins Arts coucil<br>The funding from the DCCF grants helps the ACCDC offer a series of programs for Decatur county residents of all ages and backgrounds. Because of the funding, ACCDC was able to provide supplies for the art classes at Art on the Square, located on the north side of the square downtown, and keep costs very low for participants. Also, free concerts at Lake Santee, Westport, and Greensburg were possible. The World Spotlight program, attended by 1300 residents from Decatur and surrounding counties, received funds to highlight the different cultures of the Americas.
We hope to continue to bring new and diverse arts programs to Decatur County with the help of the DCCF.
The Decatur County Community Foundation has been a fountain of encouragement for the community of New Point and for the organizations that serve here.

DCCF has helped with a wide array of projects including, but not limited to, the following:
• New Point Community Center
•	New Point Volunteer Fire Station
• Ball Diamond field lights
• Brush truck for the Fire Department
• Community beautification grant

DCCF has backed community leaders in New Point with their counsel and sound advice as well. The organization’s board is composed of area leaders who understand the problems faced by large and small towns in reaching the goals set within those communities to make all of Decatur County an even better place to live!

In the more than twenty-five years that I have lived in Decatur County I have witnessed first hand that Decatur County Community Foundation is fully dedicated to provide a much brighter future for the people of our communities by providing the resources and tools necessary for sustainable and progressive growth today.

Annually, the Board of Directors sets aside a portion of unrestricted funds to make grants to the community. The Board of Directors has prioritized the grant making desires of the Foundation. The Foundation places highest priority to funding projects which are:

• New and innovative projects or programs, including start-ups
• Projects which Foundation funds can be used as match, seed money or challenge grant funding from other donors
• Projects which will make a significant impact in the community
• Projects which act as a catalyst for action and community participation

IN 2011, GRANTS WILL AGAIN BE AVAILABLE FOR A MAXIMUM OF $15,000 AND WILL ONLY BE OFFERED IN TWO CYCLES; FEBRUARY 15 AND SEPTEMBER 15.

The Foundation's unrestricted grant funds are dispersed in three separate categories:

Large Community Grants:

These grants are reviewed three times per year and are for up to a maximum of $25,000. To apply, you must complete a Letter of Intent.
(click here for a Large Project Intent Form)

Letters of Intent may be turned in at any time and will be kept until the next grant cycle. To be a part of the first grant cycle, Intents must be received by February 15; for the second cycle, by May 15; and the third cycle, by September 15. Intents must be in the Foundation office by 4:00 on those days to be considered in that cycle.

A grant committee, comprised of local volunteers, reviews all applications. The applications are reviewed to determine how the request meets with community needs, meets Foundation guidelines and falls in line with available funds. The grant committee makes recommendations to the Board of Directors for final approval.

All applicants are notified in writing of grant decisions. Grant recipients will receive a cash agreement, which outlines details of the grant. The cash agreement must be returned to the Foundation prior to collecting any funds. Within 6 months of collecting funds, grant recipients are requested to complete a grant report form. All paperwork must be completed and returned to the Foundation to apply for any other funding.

Small Project Grants:

These grants are intended for smaller groups seeking to do projects not requiring an extensive budget. Requests can be for up to $1,500 and are reviewed monthly.

Thank a Teacher Grants:

Recognizing governmental budget cuts have placed a strain on the ability of teachers to do innovative classroom projects, the Board of Directors established a thank a teacher grant program. These grants, for up to $250, are available to classroom teachers at any school in Decatur County. The grants are for innovative classroom projects and will typically not be given to purchase equipment, for field trips or for items normally part of the school budget. Grant applications are due in the Foundation office by 4:00 pm on October 1 and February 1.
