Three community projects reeived a major boost from Lilly Endowment, Inc. in 1998. Through Phase III of their Giving Indiana Funds for Tomorrow (GIFT), the Decatur County Family YMCA received $750,000; the Decatur County Child Care Center received $175,000; and the Decatur County Parks and Recreation Youth Sports Complex received $75,000. In October of 1997, the Lilly Endowment, Inc. announced Phase III of GIFT. Through their generosity, each viable Indiana Community Foundation became eligible for $1 million. The Decatur County Community Foundation’s Board of Directors chose to recommend appropriate community projects for the $1 million. The three projects applied to Lilly Endowment, Inc. in December of 1997, and their grants were approved at the February, 1998 board meeting of the Endowment.
