Stories from the Grantees: New Directions

Updated: Aug 11, 2022

New Directions of Decatur County strives to increase social consciousness about domestic violence and to assist individual victims by helping them break free from the cycle of physical and emotional abuse.

In January, New Directions received a Small Grant from Decatur County Community Foundation for a Prevention Media Campaign. This campaign was to increase public awareness about domestic violence and the resources available to our community.

“From the consistency of the material it has allowed individuals in our community, who did not know of our existence, find their way to our door,” stated Kelly Wampler, Director of New Directions. A client had told April Richards, Case Manager, “I was sent your way by a friend who had seen some of your material online. She was able to give me your contact information and said she had heard good things of you guys. I was afraid, but I felt that contacting you first on social media was less stressful. It eventually allowed me to make a personal visit and create my safety plan.”

Small Grants are due the fifth day of each month and provide up to $1,500 to organizations looking to implement small-scale projects with a big impact.
